HACARUS Introduces A New Employee Benefit Program “Okini – Thank You, Come Again!”

December 15th, 2020 -Kyoto, Japan – HACARUS INC has introduced a new employee benefit program named “Okini – Thank you, come again!” starting from December 2020. This new program aims to provide benefits that are truly “beneficial” to the employees by allowing the team decide what perk to get – each month.

About the “Okini – Thank you, come again!” program

According to the internal research conducted in October 2020, 80% of the employees at HACARUS was not using the previous benefit system in place. The “Okini – Thank you, come again!” program was introduced in order to have a benefit program that is more widely used and appreciated by the employees. Each month, a designated “planner” will choose a project that would benefit everyone in the company and implement it. The planner will then nominate a next “planner” for the following month. This process will also be expected to contribute to even more active communication between the members at HACARUS.

“Rice Allowance”

For December 2020, the benefit project was “Rice Allowance”, where each employee received 3kg (!) of rice.

Receiving rice may seem a bit out of the ordinary as an employee benefit at a tech start-up, but there’s actually a harmonizing idea at play here – since 2019 HACARUS has operated in the Philippines, where our application development center is located. As part of Philippine custom, employers give their employees “De Minimis”, a type of sign of gratitude outside of financial recognition – and quite often this ends up being rice.

Tomomi Kikumoto, HACARUS’ HR Lead, and this months “planner” wanted to shed light on this tradition and bring it also for the Japanese team – which was a great success. This is just one of many ways that HACARUS aims to build a truly global corporate culture and we are looking forward to what the next planner will come up with!

Here are some pictures to show you the excitement and happiness when the employees at Kyoto office received the “Rice Allowance” on December 10. The rice was produced by the parents of HACARUS’ CEO, Kenshin Fujiwara.
