HACARUS & Liberaware AI-Drone Collaboration On Display At RoboDEX

AI-Drone collaboration for Smarter industrial instrument inspections will be demonstrated to the public for the first time.

January 18, 2021 – Tokyo, Japan – HACARUS, the leading provider of lightweight and explainable AI today announced that it will be showcasing the results of joint development of an automated industrial instrument inspection solution. The collaboration will be on display during RoboDEX – 5th Robot Development & Application Expo (January 20 – 22), held both on-site and online. “Currently, most equipment inspections in an indoor environment are performed manually by humans – a shortage of qualified labor and the dangerous work conditions present makes this area ripe for automation. By partnering with Liberaware and using our proprietary AI engine we’ve been able to create a strong solution to this compelling problem – I look forward to bringing it to market.” Said Kenshin Fujiwara, CEO and Founder.

Automating equipment inspections will improve the working conditions by preventing humans from operating in dangerous sites, additional benefits includes enabling increased frequency of inspections, data collection for predictive maintenance leading to increased manufacturing quality and improved overall operating efficiency.

The AI-Drone collaboration is expected to be introduced into factories and equipment in the steel, chemical, manufacturing, energy, and water fields in the near future.

System overview – inspection of meters by linking AI system and Drone

Step 1 :
Preparation and Training of Meter-Reading model using HACARUS’ proprietary AI engine

AI system learns the type of instrument (meter) and the numerical range.

Step 2 :
Read instrument numbers using HACARUS’ proprietary AI engine

Image taken by the drone is sent to local PC, and then automatically processed by AI.
Since HACARUS’ lightweight AI does not require GPU capabilities it is able to run on existing PC already in use – there is no need to invest in high-spec PCs to process data.

About Liberaware Inc.

Founded in 2016, is engaged in the development of IBIS, a small industrial drone, and the analysis of video shot by drones. The firm supports the manufacturing and construction industries to improve the productivity of equipment inspection operations. It is used for inspection of equipment that requires additional installation of support materials and equipment that is dangerous for workers to enter, such as plumbing and chimneys. IBIS has two lineups: a manually operated type and an automatic patrol type. In this project, development is based on the automatic patrol type IBIS.

About HACARUS INC.

HACARUS INC., founded 2014 in Kyoto, Japan is the leading provider of Explainable Lightweight AI Tools, backed by Osaka Gas and Miyako Capital (Kyoto University) among others. Its solutions are used in the Medical and Manufacturing fields to enable humans to make better, faster and more reliable decisions, based on AI driven insights. Hacarus’ proprietary AI engine is built using Sparse Modeling, an AI method that understands data like a human would – by its unique key features and is far more resource, time and energy efficient when compared to Deep Learning.
