HACARUS Unveils New Products – The Product Development Team Behind HACARUS Check

Back on March 25th, we launched our new HACARUS Check visual inspection system. We also showcased this technology at the  Industrial AI/IoT EXPO, one of the largest exhibitions in Nagoya, the heartland of Japanese manufacturing, from April 13th to April 15th.   

What is Visual Inspection? Why Should I Use it and What Do I Need?

Visual inspection is used to check the appearance of various parts and products to maintain and guarantee their quality. The system mainly checks for defects in appearance such as foreign matter, dirt, scratches, chips, and deformations on the surface of parts. The system can then determine if the parts or products are acceptable or not.  

In the beginning, customers who are looking to implement a visual inspection system typically have a variety of concerns. 

  • Can I maintain both the quality and speed of my inspection? 
  • Will using a visual inspection system actually improve inspection quality?
  • Can a visual inspection system match the decision-making quality of human inspectors?
  • Will using a visual inspection system lower man-hours and costs?
  • Will using a visual inspection system improve production?

Looking at factories that produce large quantities of parts, they also produce a certain percentage of defective products. Using our visual inspection systems, we guarantee quality by reducing the number of defective products and ensuring that products meet predetermined quality standards. 

There are various reasons for these defects, starting with the design phase all the way through the manufacturing process. By examining the defect data collected using visual inspection, we can analyze and determine the root cause of these defects. By improving the design and manufacturing process this way, we can improve the product quality and the operational efficiency, reducing production costs.

Even if it is possible to significantly improve the manufacturing process, running visual inspection continuously is important for ensuring the quality of the parts and products.

HACARUS Check – How it Compares with Conventional Products!

HACARUS Check is a visual inspection system that combines high-performance AI and sophisticated robot technology. With this setup, customers can inspect three-dimensional objects regardless of their shape. This includes die-cast and pressed products, automotive parts, and metal products which have been difficult to inspect using conventional inspection equipment. HACARUS’ visual inspection system can detect defects with accuracy down to 0.1mm from all directions.

Immediate Implementation

The HACARUS Check system is a powerful set of equipment that can do everything from imaging to decision-making. The hardware has been integrated with powerful AI and comes in a small easy-to-use package that can be easily moved in any environment. The inspection system requires no special installation work and operates using a 100V power supply. This flexibility allows for seamless integration into various production lines and it can be adjusted for any factory changes. The robot arm is also extremely safe and doesn’t require the use of safety fences. 

360-Degree Inspection – No Blind Spots!

HACARUS Check sports a 6-axis robot arm, illuminated ring light, and a rotating elevating platform. These components work in tandem to capture images from all directions, which was previously impossible using conventional systems. The robot arm captures images in quick succession, just like the paparazzi photographing a celebrity. 

Creating AI Models with Small Data

While working with our customers, we can create an inspection AI model with as few as 20 “good” images. This allows the training time to be shorter than other models that use deep learning. Of course, our AI continuously improves its accuracy as it accumulates more data. This is all thanks to the hard work of our technical team at HACARUS. 

The Innovative Team We are Creating 

HACARUS Check is being led by our Product team inside of the Development Department. The team is diverse and includes data scientists, software engineers, and edge engineers who are handling the hardware. Even though HACARUS is a small organization, our members each have a unique background and expertise. We also believe that collaboration is one of the key strengths of HACARUS’ Development Department. 

The Versatility & Skill Set of HACARUS Engineers

Developing HACARUS Check has been a large undertaking, especially the robot arm. The team in charge has members who can design FPGAs, use C++, and understand and implement machine learning. 

We also have members who can do electrical circuit artwork, develop Windows C#, communicate with PLCs, and write in Python. Other impressive skills include electrical circuit design, 3D CAD, and firmware development. 

HACARUS also builds web applications, and we have full-stack engineers who are skilled at designing Cloud systems. They are also familiar with implementing back-end systems and understand machine learning. 

Finally, we have members who work with incorporating DevOps / MLOps. While some of our members specialize in one or two areas, everyone is capable of performing many roles. Sometimes, our engineers can even perform the work of two or three people on their own. 

The Close Collaboration of HACARUS’ Sales and Development Departments

At HACARUS, each of our departments work closely together to develop our solutions. Members of the Sales Department are tasked with identifying the customer’s needs and then they immediately work with the Development Department. These departments collaborate to create and execute a plan that meets the customer’s needs. Because we are a relatively small team, we understand the need to be light on our feet and flexible to quickly fulfill the needs of our customers.  

Unveiling HACARUS Check

HACARUS first unveiled the visual inspection system at the  Industrial AI/IoT EXPO between April 13th to April 15th, 2022.
